Glenn Standish is Ambassador of Tourism in Toruń - Friday 28th December 2012
We are pleased to announce that Toruń Tips creator Glenn Standish has been awarded the Honorary title of Ambassador of Tourism in Toruń by Toruń City Council. The award was presented to Glenn in a special ceremony attended by President Michał Zaleski, local councilors and Polish MPs. Congratulations!

Toruń Tips was mentioned in an article today on Bloomberg. The financial media company published an article about the possibility that EURO 2012 fans could become cash cows. Glenn Standish said that “Many Irish fans are now basing themselves in Torun as prices of accommodation in the likes of Poznan and Gdansk are in some places six times the normal rate". It's refreshing to see here in Toruń that the price of hotels, beers, taxis, etc is still very low! Well done Toruń!

This evening, a group of Irish fans changed their favourite sport and took part in a beach volleyball tournament right in the middle of the New Market Square. Competing against members of Toruń's City Council and other VIPs, the Irish fans came 3rd!

Today International House Toruń organised a visit by 11 Irish fans into local schools here in Toruń. The event was a great success and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

This evening Irish fans were treated to a great concert by Polish celtic music group SHANNON. The event was put on especially for all the Irish football fans who are currently here in Toruń. They were made to feel very welcome!

The First Match: Ireland Vs. Croatia - Sunday 10th June 2012

Today was the first EURO 2012 match for Ireland. The final result may not have been great (3-1 to Croatia) but the atmosphere was amazing. TORUŃ TIPS was fortunate enough to travel with the Irish fans from Toruń. The convoy of 8 buses had police escort all the way to Poznan.
Poznan was party central...everyone was good spirited and we saw no violence or aggression amongst the fans. TORUŃ TIPS also captured the Irish team as they boarded their coach on the way to the stadium... |

Today's prison visit by Irish fans made national Polish TV. Unfortunately TVP made a slight cock up as they got the names the wrong way around! So Glenn Standish suddenly became 'Bugsy Malone' from Ireland!!!

Irish Fans prison visit - Friday 8th June 2012

Today International House Toruń and Toruntips.com organised a great and very unique event. We took a small group of Irish football fans into Toruń prison. It was a great event with a lot of local and national media present. The lads were greeted to a great welcome with a powerpoint display depicting Irish football games to the song "You'll never beat the Irish". It was then followed by a Q&A session between the lads and prisoners, then a game of table football between Irish fans and Polish prisoners (Poland won 3-2) and finally ended with the Irish teaching the prisoners an Irish football chant (Come on You Boys in Green) and the Polish prisoners vice versa (Polska Biała Czerwona - Poland, White, Red).

Today, Toruń Tips' Glenn Standish was interviewed alongside Romuald Poślednik on TV Toruń's Rozmowa Dnia (Talk of the Day). The pair were talking about International House Toruń's exciting educational plans for Euro 2012 which include an Irish Knowledge Competition in local high schools. The 1st prize in the 16-19 age category will be a 2 week course at International House Dublin with return flights and host-family accommodation.

Irish Fans Welcome Concert - 18th April 2012
Here in Toruń we are all getting very excited about the Irish fans coming...so much so that we are even putting on a special Irish Welcome Concert for you all. It'll be taking place on the evening of Monday 11th June at the beautiful Dwór Artusa venue right in the middle of the Old Market Square. There will be a large room with bar and stage...and well-known Polish Celtic band 'SHANNON' will be performing. The band is also looking for any Irish fans who are musicians to join them on stage for a jam-session. Should be an amazing evening and a great introduction for all the fans to Toruń.

During the Easter vacation, Toruń Tips welcomed a small film crew from BBC Scotland. The crew were in Toruń filming a documentary about the POW camps from WWII. The documentary will be aired in the autumn on BBC Alba.

Today a small group of Irish fans descended on Toruń to check out the city prior to Euro 2012. They met up with Glenn Standish and had a jam-packed afternoon meeting local press...all washed down in the evening with some Guinness in a local pub! They left with fond memories of Toruń.

Meeting with Vice-President of Toruń - Friday 10th February 2012
Today Glenn Standish met Zbigniew Fiderewicz (the Vice-President of Toruń). Together with Jarosław Więckowski (the chief of Toruń's sport and tourism department) they had a meeting to discuss the incoming Irish fans to Toruń. Mr Fiderewicz thanked Glenn (and TORUŃ TIPS) for promoting Toruń.
